First Visit Success
Luiz Louriero from Miami, FL visits Custom Aircraft Builders for his first building and training session on his Sling TSi.
The week began with the typical building of all of the tail and control surfaces. We taught Luiz all the common building techniques including using clecos, dimpling, drilling, reaming, and riveting with all of our various types of rivet guns.

We do firewalls a little differently at Custom Aircraft Builders. We install the sound-proof insulation on the inside. On the engine side, we prime the surface, add a layer of Contego fire-proof paint, and then a white acrylic urethane top coat, making a very bright and easy to clean surface. The Contego is a latex-based paint (hence the lack of serious PPE on Matt and Luiz) that is applied with an airless sprayer. It’s very thick and can’t be thinned per the instructions so it leaves a little texture.
Left: After some dimpling of the ribs and countersinking on the spar, the wings looked like this.
If you noticed the winter jacket, it’s February in NY and Luiz is from FL but it’s not that cold in the hangar.
Above: Later in the week, the core of the wings were completed except for the top skin.
We were able to complete a large section of the fuselage during his week here.
